In 1851, at age 16, John Milne was residing in Strichen, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, with his brother George, in the home of their uncle Alexander Milne. In 1861, at age 26, John Milne was residing at Bridge Street (saddler's Shop), Strichen, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, with his wife and son. He was employed as a carter. In 1871, at age 37, John Milne was residing at South Or Water Street, Strichen, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, with his son, Alexander. He was living with 37 year old Elspeth Smith. His wife was not present and did not die until 1881. They are presumed to have split up. His later criminal conviction may be the reason. He was employed as a carter. In 1872, John Milne, age 42, was tried for robbery/theft with a prior conviction in Strichen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His occupation was listed as carter. In 1881, at age 46, John Milne was residing at North Street, Strichen, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, as a lodger in the home of Elspeth Smith. He was employed as a carter. On 10 Jan 1913, in Strichen, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 83 year old John Milne, retired carter and widower of Amelia Henderson, died. The informant was his granddaughter Elsie Hall.
