  Frank Prangley is found in 1881 at 75 High Street in Bedwellty, Monmouth, Wales working as a shoemaker. He is shown as being born in Bristol County, England, which is adjacent to Somerset, however the 1891 census corrects this error and shows his birth place as Frome, Somerset. In 1891 they are living in Abergavenny, Monmouth, Wales. According to descendant, Vanessa Firmston (nee Prangley), "The info we have is that Frank was a bit of a B..... Edward was put into a workhouse at a young age, and took off overseas.... travelled thru Canada, America, etc. His brother Elisha was in the British Army and posted to India." This could explain why the 1901 census shows Frank and his wife living separately -- Frank in Abertillery, Monmouth and Maria elsewhere in Monmouth. The list of Dr. Bernardo's Home Children who were shipped to Canada as "orphans" includes and Albert Prangley, age 15, shipped in 1889 on the SS Sardinian, along with his brother Thomas, age 13. They match exactly to the ages of the sons Edward Albert and brother Thomas, and would give clarity to the story above.
