• Notes

  Helen is recorded as "adopted". She may have been illegitimate from a relationship prior to William Reid. However many of Helen's relatives from the Reid, Gillespie and Stewart families died during the 1840s (probably from smallpox). It's quite possible that this Helen could have been the orphaned child of one of those relationships. Helen and William Romans had no children.
