• Notes

  Courtland was married but his wife's name and children's names are unknown. Courtland owned a farm in Zimmerman Township, Halton County, Ontario. One day he came in from the fields and found his wife in bed with one of the farm hands. In the passion of the moment Courtland went down to the basement to fetch his rifle. He stood in the basement underneath the bedroom and pointed the gun up at the ceiling to where the bed would be and fired. His shot thankfully missed his intended targets, but Courtland was charged with attempted murder. He fled the country with the assistance of his brother and ended up in England. He and his brother continued to correspond through secret messages, but his brother would burn these letters as soon as he finished reading them. Courtland's whereabouts in England is unknown.
