• Notes

  Janet was the daughter of John Shade, an overseer at the Deanston Works. She worked as a dressmaker. She was later committed to an asylum, afterwhich her husband, Hugh, remarried. However, when he remarried he recorded himself as a "widower" even though his wife was still alive! On 30 Jun 1868, Janet was admitted to the Gartnavel Royal Asylum, Lanarkshire, Scotland. In 1871, at age 32, Janet was residing at Springburn Poorhouse, Lunatic Asylum, and Fever Hospital, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, where she was an inmate and working as a Warehouse Worker. Janet is not found in 1881.
