  It is not certain that Alexander is a son of this family. He is recorded in the Balquhidder OPR as a son of "Robert Steuart, proprietor of Monachyle Beg", but with no mother given. OPR records appear to show two Robert Stewarts, one in Monachyle Mor married to Janet Stewart and the other in Monachyle Beg married to Marjory Stewart, and both alive at the same time. This Alexander can fit chronologically as a son of either Robert. However, the Robert Stewart of Monachyle Mor (and later of Craigruie) was said to be proprietor of BOTH Monachyle Mor and Monachyle Beg. Thus, we are at a loss as to which Robert is correctly the father of this Alexander.
