  Janet was already four months pregnant when she married Duncan Stewart, however she was pregnant by another man. The birth registration of her illegitimate son, John Stevenson, on 7 JAN 1867 in Fannyside Mill, Cumbernauld, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, reads: "Janet Stewart, maiden name Stevenson, wife of Duncan Stewart, miller or mason, to whom she was married 13th August 1866 but who she declares is not the father of the child." They father's name is difficult to read but appears to be something like "Larset" Stevenson. The illegitimate son, John Stevenson, has not been found in any later census records.
