| Notes |
- Christian Stewart was born in 1805 in Immeroin, Glenbuckie, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland, as the daughter of Peter Stewart in Immeroin and Agnes Ferguson.
Little is known of Christian's life other than she never married and lived a life of poverty.
Christian Stewart has not been identified in the 1841, 1851, or 1861 census records.
In 1862, she came under the care of the Parochial Relief Board for the parish of Balquhider for financial relief as a pauper. In the Relief Board report, Christian is identified as being a former "out-door worker" (which could mean an outdoor labourer, but the term is also used as a euphamism for prostitution). She had two illegitimate sons, John Buchanan who lived in Balfron, Stirlingshire, Scotland, and Robert McGrowther (McGruther) who immigrated to New Zealand. Her sons have not been identified in public records.
In 1871, at age 66, Christian Stewart was residing at Bridge of Turk, Callander, Perthshire, Scotland. (The Relief Board report specifies they were living at Duncraggan at Bridge of Turk.) She is listed as a former domestic servant. She was residing as a lodger in the home of John Stewart (29, a coachman, born in Aberfoyle) and his aunt, Janet McFarlane (50, general servant, born in Aberfoyle), his sister, Janet Campbell (57, born in Callander, housekeeper), and his niece, Janet Keir (14, born in Aberfoyle). It's possible that Christian was also a relative.
In June 1871, Christian Stewart moved to Balfron, Stirlingshire, Scotland, to live with her son, John Buchanan. He has not been confidently identified in census records as there are too many matching records.
On 20, Oct 1873, Christian Stewart, died in Balfron, Stirlingshire, Scotland, as a spinster pauper.
