• Notes

  Alexander is described in Stewarts of the South as being one of the four sons of Charles Stewart: "two grown up to men, the one with himself and the other in the way of service, two remaining under age." Alexander would be one of the first two, but it's not safe to assume that he is the second or to assume that Stewarts of the South has them in the correct order. In 1841, at age 45, Alexander Stewart was residing at Collimun Moss Settlers (Collymoon Moss), Port of Menteith, Perthshire, Scotland. He was residing with 45 year old Christian Stewart, who has not been identified. She may be an unrecorded spinster sister. Collymoon Moss is located on the north bank of the River Forth, about 2 km southwest of Dykehead, about 3km south of Lake of Menteith. Proclaimed in order to marriage in 1847 January 10th Alexander Stewart [Culliscuron ?] and Margaret Stewart were proclaimed regularly in order to marriage, and married by the rev ?? on the 12th/01/1847. In 1851, at age 50, Alexander Stewart was residing in Culnamoon (Collymoon Moss), Port of Menteith, Perthshire, Scotland, with his 25-year-old wife Margaret, his newborn son Charles and his 7-year-old nephew, John. In 1861, at age 60, Alexander Stewart was residing in Calsimoon (Collymoon Moss), Port of Menteith, Perthshire, Scotland, with his wife Margaret (48) and two of their children, Charles (11) and Margaret (9). Alexander was employed as a farmer of 20 acres. In 1871, at age 70, Alexander Stewart was residing in Cottrie, Port of Menteith, Perthshire, Scotlandm as a widowed farmer of 15 acres with his son Charles and daughter Margaret. (The location of Cottrie has not been identified. It may be a transcription error for Collymoon or a cottage on the Collymoon Moss property.) Alexander Stewart died a year later.
