• Notes

Charles Stewart was born 3 Mar 1748 in Edraleachdach, Callander, Perthshire, Scotland, as the son of Alexander Stewart and Beatrice Stewart. (The date of Charles' birth/baptism is unclear. The baptism is listed with 1748 baptisms but is indexed as having taken place in 1740. ScotlandsPeople says the birth took place on 3 Mar 1740, but says "date assumed." The original parish register images need to be consulted for confirmation. As this couple were married in 1746 and the birth is not recorded as illegitimate, then it seems 1748 is more likely the correct date.) It appears that Charles was likely named after his paternal uncle. Charles Stewart is described in Stewarts of the South (c. 1815) as: "Charles Stewart, innkeeper in Callander - no sons." The Callander parish register shows no daughters for him either. As Charles Stewart had no children, there is no further record of him in the Callander parish register. He did not live long enough to be recorded in any census records. No other record of him has been found.
