  The Balquhidder OPR records Catharine's birth as: "1766 JUN 8 - James Stewart and Catharine Stewart both in the Breas had a child begotten in fornication baptized and called Catharine and Duncan Stewart the Grandfather was sponsor for the child." Her parents were married three years later. Catharine's grandfather, Duncan, who acted as baptism sponsor, was most likely her maternal grandfather.
