- Caleb is described in Stewarts of the South as "[a] tenant of Inver-a-riach, [in] Strathyre, [on] Buchanan of Auchlessy's property" and in the Stewarts of the South Appendix as "Caleb Stewart, Innervulin [in] Strathyre, of the Gartnafuaran family, an industrious good man, £70, Buchanan of Achleskie's [property], under the same... [?]"
OPR records indicate that he later resided in Laggan, Strathyre, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland. Stewarts of the South records that he had only two sons, James and John, but no birth record has been found for any such sons. Onomastics would dictate that Caleb should have named his eldest son James, so it seems reasonable to suggest that Stewarts of the South is correct and that Caleb was married firstly to an unknown woman by whom he had sons James and John and secondly on 2 MAY 1795 to Janet Ferguson of Balquhidder parish, by whom he had sons Robert and Patrick.
