  Duncan is not mentioned in Stewarts of the South and is presumed to have died young. However, the fact that Duncan and David were used as substitute names for each other may indicate that it was actually David who died young and this Duncan was the one who was a spirit dealer in Glasgow with two sons and Duncan was simply called "David" later in life.
