• Notes

  No record has been found of Duncan Stewart's birth, however, he is identified in Stewarts of the South as a younger son of Duncan Stewart in Blarcrioch, and a younger brother to Robert Stewart in Summerline. Stewarts of the South says, "Duncan, his (Robert's) brother, now dead, left three sons [who are all] minors in Flanders Moss [on] Blair Drummond’s estate. His wife nursed a child to Blair Drummond and hath been the means of supporting his family." The 1814 Blair Drummond Moss Census reveals four Duncan Stewarts about the right age to be this Duncan Stewart. However, all of those entries have been accounted for in other families. This is not suprising as Stewarts of the South says that Duncan was deceased at the time that document was written circa 1815, so it's likely that Duncan was already dead when the Moss census was conducted a year earlier in 1814. Stewarts of the South says that Duncan left three minor-aged sons in Flanders Moss. No entry has been found in the 1814 Blair Drummond Moss Census that shows a family with three orphaned Stewart sons. Thus, so far, we have been unable to identify Duncan's family in any public records.
