Notes - Stewarts of the South (ca. 1815), says that Donach Rioch Stewart ("Duncan with the tawny-grey hair") was the son of Patrick mac Ross mhic Pharic Stewart ("Patrick, son of Robert, son of Patrick Stewart") and that Duncan was the patriarch of 2-Line of descendants of the Stewarts of Muirlaggan and Lianach. Stewarts of the South also says that Duncan was a good soldier and was a tacksman living at Lianach in Glen Buckie.
It also says that Duncan had two surviving sons. One of his sons lived at Summerline on the Blair Drummond Moss (Flanders Moss) and was an "industrious man" who had two sons of his own. The other was a son named Duncan Stewart who was a labourer in the village of Thornhill and had four sons of his own who were of minor age about 1815.
Despite this description, no family has been found in parish records or the 1814 Moss Census that matches this description.
