- Duncan Stewart (1739) says: "Alexander of Craigtoun married Katharine Drummond, daughter to Drummond-Erinoch, by whom he had James, who died a batchelor and several daughters."
Gordon MacGregor, The Red Book of Scotland, shows that James died without children.
James Stewart is listed in a court action in 1711 against Alexander Stewart of Annat by his tenants, in which he is listed as having a tutor and thus was still of minor age.
"Katherine Drummond, Lady Craigton, and Alexander Stewart, brother german to the Laird of Ardvorlich, now her husband, for her interest, and all tenantry and tacksmen of the Estate of Craigton, and James Stewart of Craigton, and his tutor and curatory for their interest." (19 Jan 1711)
James Stewart presumably died prior to his aunt, Mary Stewart, who became heiress of Craigtoun. James and Mary would have been close in age.
