  James' baptism was witnessed by Andrew STEWART in Buchany and John Gibson at Candy. It is believed that James did not marry. The marriage section of his death certificate was left blank. He worked as a joiner until he retired to live with his sister, the widowed Margaret, in Deanston. He died in 1855 at age 73, leaving his sister alone in Deanston.
