- James' baptism was witnessed by John McFarlan and David Bain both in Doune. James Stewart is described in Stewarts of the South as being "in the mercantile in Glasgow." James is found in Mitchell's Monumental Inscriptions for Kilmadock Cemetery: "39 James STEWART, merchant (at) Glasgow, died 20 JUL 1837. Catharine STEWART 13 MAR 1876, age 81, widow of Peter ROBERTSON, farmer (at) Craighead.
