Notes - Jane Ord Stewart, or "Jean" as she was called, was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, although her family came from Puslinch in Wellington County. Her daughter-in-law, Harriett Jones, recalled that the Hamilton Stewarts often visited Uncle Peter Stewart's farm in Puslinch (near Guelph). Jean was only 10 years old when her father died suddenly. She and her siblings were raised by their widowed mother who never remarried. Jean is the only one of her siblings to survive to old age, and one of only two who survived past their early 20s.
In 1881, Jean was residing in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada as a child with her parents and siblings Robert, Leonard, James, and Margaret, as well as her uncles David Tait and Robert Tait and aunt Margaret Tait.
In 1891, Jean was residing in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, with her widowed mother and teenage brothers, Leonard and James.
