• Notes

Janet's birth is found in the IGI for Muthill parish with only her mother given as "Janet Stewart". Census records confirm this to be Janet, daughter of Janet Stewart nee McFarlane. As her mother is shown widowed in 1871 and 1881 this would suggest that her father, William, died in 1865 and Janet was born posthumously. Janet ("Jessie") is found in 1871 residing in at 5th Division in Deanston, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland with her widowed mother and sisters Mary, Jane and Isabella. Janet is found in 1881 residing in Deanston with her sister Isabella.
