- Janet Stewart's date of birth is an estimate based on the fact that she was known to be a widow by 1500. Her place of birth is not known for sure, but is presumed to be the family estate of Baldorran.
Janet Stewart, to whom her father conveyed the lands of Lettir on 4 July 1493. She married firstly prior to 9 November 1500, to Andrew Balfour, eldest son and heir of James Balfour of Boquhapple. Andrew died sometime before 9 Novemeber 1500 at which time his brother unsuccessfully attempted to claim her lands of Torrie, Portbank and Isle of Loch Venacher. Her claim was upheld by the Lords of Council on 9 November 1500. (Gordon MacGregor, The Red Book of Scotland) From this information we can deduce that she was born probably no later than 1480. She married secondly, by 4 June 1506, to John Kinross of Kippenross when she granted her share of the lands of Lettir to Archibald MacLauchlan in Strathgartney. They had children.
