  John Stewart was a half-pay British officer from Woodville, Wilkinson, Mississippi, USA. His birth is unknown. Family records refer to him as "Capt. Jock Stewart". He married Janett Stewart. Their daughter Jeanette Stewart was born in Scotland in 1783, it seems likely that they fled to Scotland after the the American Revolution and did not return to the USA until it was safe to do so. In 1801, he is believed to be the John Stewart residing in Montgomery, Tennessee, USA, on 100 acres, next to his brothers-in-law, Charles, Duncan and James.
