  John is not mentioned in Duncan Stewart (1739), but is mentioned by MacGregor: "John Stewart, is styled the eldest son in his Testament and dsp. His brother, Robert, was served heir general to him on 20 October 1725." This must be understood as eldest "surviving" son, as the OPR shows that Alexander was the eldest, but he died before John.
