  Katherine Stewart was born in 1866 in either Comrie parish (according to the 1851 census) or in Balquhidder parish (according to her marriage record). Onomastics would suggest that Kathrine's father's name was Alexander. In 1795, Kathrine and John Stewart are shown as being "both of this parish" at the time of their marriage. Their first child is recorded in the Balquhidder parish register as "begotten in antenuptial fornication" (in other words, she was pregnant when they got married), which fits chronologically with the birth data. In 1841, at age 70, Catherine Stewart was residing at Finglen in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland, as a widow in the home of her son, John.
