Robert Stewart was born 9 Aug 1795 in Colveny (Colvey or Heads), Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland, as the son of Duncan Stewart and Christian Walker. Robert's baptism was witnessed by Alexander Forbes at Ballocaish and Walter Stewart at (illegible, possibly his cousin Walter Stewart, merchant in Callander, son of Alexander Stewart in Bochastle). Robert Stewart is described in Stewarts of the South c. 1815 as a servant to the Earl of Murray (Moray) who resided at Doune Castle and Doune Lodge (Cambus Wallace). Robert Stewart married on 15 Dec 1825 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland, to Christian McLaren. The marriage was also registered in Kincardine parish. Robert Stewart appears to have continued in his employment with the Earl until about 1828-1830 when he moved from Kilmadock parish to Kincardine parish and finally to the town of Stirling. In 1841, at age 40 (sic), Robert Stewart was residing at Cowan Street in St. Ninian's parish in the town of Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland, with his wife and young children. He was employed as a labourer. In 1851, at age 55, Robert Stewart was residing at Cowan Street in Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland, with his wife and children. He was employed as a carter. Robert Stewart's wife, Christian, died sometime between 1851-1855. In 1861, at age 65, Robert Stewart was residing at 116 Baker Street in Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland, as a widower with two of his adult children. He was employed as a carriers porter. Robert Stewart, carter, widower, died 17 Mar 1866 at Portnellan, age 72 years, son of Duncan Stewart, labourer, deceased, and Christina Walker. Informant: Peter Stewart, brother.
