• Notes

  Penelope is not listed in Stewart Clan Magazine as one of the children of Charles Stewart and Polly Jones. De Graffenried records indicate that Penelope came from a very wealthy family and that they had 13 children only three of whom survived to adulthood. The rest are not named or recorded. After Penelope's death, General De Graffenried married secondly to Peggy McLemore and had ten children with her.
