  The Aberfoyle OPR recrods William as "Schoolmaster at Kinlochard" at the births of his children Anne, Mary, and Walter. William is described in Stewarts of the South as being a "schoolmaster at Summerline Flanders Moss, who has three sons". He is shown in the 1814 Blair Drummond Moss Census residing at 14 Summer's Lane (Summerline), employed as a schoolmaster, and residing with his wife and most of his children. Their place of origin is given as "Lochearnside". They had been living on the Moss for 14 years (since about 1800).
