  In 1841 William was residing at Arnive Farm, Kincardine by Doune, Perthshire, Scotland with his brothers James and John. They were all employed as farm labourers to James McQueen. At the time of his marriage William was residing in Gargunnock parish in Stirlingshire, Scotland. His marriage is recorded on 1846 July 19, recorded in Port of Menteith as "William Stewart in the Parish of Gargunnock Jean Mcfarlane of this Parish." In 1851 William was residing at Westwood on Blair Drummond Moss, Kincardine by Doune, Perthshire, Scotland with his wife and their first three children. William was recorded as born 1822 in Port of Menteith and was employed as a farm labourer to James Bald, age 77, b Perth, Scotland. Also residing with them is an Alexander Stewart, b 1838 in Kincardine. The only matching birth in the Kincardine OPR is Alexander Stewart, b 22 OCT 1837, son of Alexander Stewart and Christian Gow. In 1861 William was residing in Muthill parish, Perthshire, Scotland (the exact address is not given) with his wife and the following children: Mary, Daniel, William, James, Jane and Alexander. William was employed as a coal merchant. William is not found in 1871, but his widow and daughters Mary, Jane, Isabella and Janet (Jessie) are found residing at 5th Division in Deanston, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland where his widow was working as a mill worker. William's last child, Janet, is shown in the IGI for Muthill with only her mother given, suggesting that William probably died in 1865 and Janet was probably born postumously. The Muthill OPR has not been consulted to confirm, nor has any death record been found for William.
