• Notes

  As a boy, William attended Guildford Royal Grammar School in Guildford, Surrey, England. He entered the army and served during WWI as a Major in the 2nd Battalion, Cameron Highlanders and was awarded the Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George and the Distinguished Service Order. He afterwards retired to Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, England where he was County Librarian and a member of Somerset Council.
