Robert is mentioned in the following: Alexander Ferguson, from Carol Bennett's book, The Lanark Society Settlers (Renfrew, Ontario: Juniper Books, 1991, a listing of Scottish settlers in Lanark County, Ontario: "Alexander Ferguson, 1779-1853. Born at Laggan farm, Balquhidder, Perthshire. [Arrived in ship] Commerce, 1820. Came to Canada with his wife, Mary Lloyd and their two elder children, who were born in Glasgow ... Alexander Ferguson already had family in Upper Canada when he travelled here. His brothers were early military settlers. They were Sgt. John Ferguson of Drummond [a township in Lanark] and Robert of Bathurst [another township] who had come in 1816. A half brother, Peter Ferguson, came out on the ship Jane in 1818 and settled in Drummond Township in Prestonvale."
