• Notes

  In 1889, at age 21, Emma immigrated to Washington State, USA and lived in Tacoma, where, four years later, she married Prof. John Leonard Tait. His father founded the Tacoma Business College. Emma taught elocution and oratory at the college. In 1895 Emma is listed in the Tacoma Directory as a teacher of elocution and oratory at the Tacoma Business College.
