Notes |
- Margaret's brith is recorded in one census record as being in St. Anne parish, Stirlingshire, Scotland and in another census record as being in Bannockburn, which is in St. Ninian parish.
In 1851, Margaret was residing with her husband and children in Chapel Croft, Cambusbarron, St. Ninians, Stirlingshire, Scotland.
Her husband's death record indicates that he immigrated to Australia in 1852 and died there in 1859. As family records indicate that Margaret did immigrate with her husband then it would appear that she returned to Scotland after her husband's death.
In 1861, Margaret was residing in Chapel Croft, Cambusbarron, St. Ninians, Stirlingshire, Scotland with her daughters Christina (25) and Isabella (22), as well as 18 year old niece, Jane McKenzie Stewart (b 1843 in St. Ninians, Stirlingshire, Scotland. As this is an exact match for her daughter, Jane, and no matching niece has been found in any other census or birth records, it appears the 1861 census transcription is in error and this is either Margaret's daughter or a niece by an unknown sister who married a Stewart.), and 14 year old niece, Margaret McKnig (McKnight).
In 1871, Margaret was residing at 74 Port Street in Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland with her daughters Christina, isabell and Jane. She is also shown living with James Jean, born 1827 in Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland, employed as a tailor. As he does not match with this family it may be that he was either from a prior marriage or he is a son-in-law.
In 1881, a matching census record has been found for Margaret Stewart, age 80, born in St. Ninians, Stirlingshire, Scotland, seamstress, residing at 71 Main Street, St Ninians, Stirlingshire, Scotland along with her sister, Elizabeth Hodge, age 70, born St. Ninians, Stirlingshire, Scotland, It is not confirmed that this is the same Margaret Stewart.
