In 1861, Andrew was residing at 22 Gallowsknowe in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland, with his parents and siblings.
In 1869, at the age of 22, Andrew immigrated to Wellington County, Ontario, Canada, eventually settling in Guelph, not far from the family of Leonard Tait.
On 1 Jul 1870 a matching Andrew Tait, born 1846 in Scotland, arrived in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada travelling from Glasgow, Scotland.
In 1871, a matching Andrew Tait, born 1848 in Yetholm, Roxburgh (4 km from Ednam), is residing at Earlston, Berwickshire, Scotland as an agricultural labourer, boarding with the family of Jacob Tait (born 1830 in Yetholm, son of Robert Jacob Tait). Andrew has not been found in the 1871 Canadian census. It's possible the 1906 census record of him having immigrated in 1869 may have been off by a couple of years.
