- Conn Ceadcathach, or "Conn of the Hundred Battles", was so called because of the hundreds of battles he was reputed to have fought and won. He was said to have fought sixty battles against Cahir Mor, King of Leinster and High King of Ireland, whom Conn slew and succeeded as High King. He is claimed to have fought one hundred battles against the kings of Ulster, another hundred battles against Eoghan Mor (also known as Mogha Nua-Dhad), King of Munster, whom he is said to have defeated, yet he was forced to cede half the kingdom to Eoghan. He had two brothers who killed two of Conn's sons in an attempt to secure the throne for themselves, however Conn's third son, Airt, survived and banished his uncles to Leinster and Munster.
Conn reigned for 35 years, but was eventually killed at Tara in 157 by fifty assassins disguised as women employed by Tiobraidhe Tireach mac Mal O'Rochruidhe, King of Ulster.
