• Notes

John Stewart is believed but not confirmed to be the John Stewart described in Stewarts of the South as: "John Stewart, late tenant of Tulloch, Balquhidder, left two sons: The one is a soldier. The other is a bleacher in Campsie." John is cited as a witness in the 1764 paternity trial of Robert Stewart in Lednascridan, in which John is described as a brother of Dougal Stewart in Tulloch. There is only one John Stewart in the Balquhidder OPR who lived in Tulloch and is the right age to be a brother to Dougal Stewart in Tulloch. Onomastics would suggest that John's father's name was Robert and his wife's father's name was Walter. The following baptism may tie these two together: 1764 Decr 16th, Walter Steuart late servant to Glenbuckie and McIntyre his fellow servant had a child in fornication baptized called Allan (Callander Parish) Robert Steuart in Tullich sponsor.
