George Stewart was the son of John Stewart and Janet Stewart. He is estimated to have been born about 1820 in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland, although no record of his marriage has been found. He has also not been identified in census records. In 1860, George Stewart is identified in his father's testament as "[my son] George Stewart, Furnaceman, residing at Newmains Iron Works." In 1882, George Stewart is mentioned in the testament of his brother, John Stewart, as being a farmer in Minnesota, USA. In 1889, George Stewart is mentioned in the testament of his sister, Janet Stewart, as residing in Grand Forks, Dakota. Despite the preceding information, we have been unable to identify George Stewart in any census record in Scotland or the USA.
