Notes |
- The name of the father of James and Alexander Fisher is unknown. As both of his known sons had eldest sons named John, it is suggest that the father's name is John. According to family records, the sons were born in Wester Shian, Glen Quaich, Kenmore, Perthshire, Scotland.
Given that Glen Quaich was a predominantly Gaelic-speaking area, it is likely that the family surname is an Anglicization of the surname, Mac an Iascair, (MacInesker) which means "son of the fisherman."
In 1833 there was a massive migration of people from Glen Quaich to North Easthope in Perth County, Ontario, Canada. All but one branch of this Fisher family migrated to Canada.
According to family records, James Fisher moved to Balliemore in Glen Buckie in Balquhidder parish as a young man, where he became a shepherd to the Stewart family who "had been tenants there for four generations" and married one of their daughters.
Balquhidder parish records show several other contemporary Fisher families through the 18th century, so it is likely that James already had family connections in the area.
James Fisher's son, John Fisher, is the only known member of this family to have remained in Scotland. The rest of the known descendants of ____ Fisher emigrated to Canada.
------------
The most likely birth record for his son James is:
FISHER, JAMES, son of JOHN FISHER/ (no mother), M, 10/08/1780, Dunkeld.
