  ERECTED by MARGARET AITCHISON In Memory of her Parents ALEXANDER AITCHISON who died 10th April 1831* (sic 1851) aged 82. Also MARGARET CRAWFORD His wife died 11th Febry. 1832 aged 52 years. And the above MARGARET AITCHISON died 16th Febry. 1867. Aged 59 Years. FindAGrave gives the above transcription of the stone. However, it cannot be correct as Alexander Aitchison was alive in 1841 when he was living in Delgado, Swinton, Berkwickshire, Scotland, with his children Alexander, Walter, Margaret and John. His age is given as 70 which would put his birth as 1771. Closer inspection of the photo of the stone appears to show his death date as 1851, not 1831. Which would make his birth 1769, a match for the 1841 census. The 1841 census shows his birth as occurring in Scotland outside of Berwickshire. A search for a matching birth ca. 1770 produces too many possiblities to choose from.
