• Notes

Duncan Ferguson was a labourer in the village of Thornhill, Kincardine by Doune, Perthshire, Scotland, and deadbeat father. He had an illegitimate son with Mary Stewart in 1852 and refused to pay support for the child. Mary had to pursue him through the courts for a year, and even then the court had to threaten Duncan with arrest if he didn't pay. (See Mary's notes for full details.)
