• Notes

  According to his military service record, Robert Stewart was born in Thanet, Hastings, Ontario, Canada. (Thanet is the 4th ghost town heading north up the Hastings Rd. from Millbridge. It is 2.5 kms north of Murphy's Corner and south of Ormsby.) Robert's siblings were baptised in the Secession Presbyterian Church in Glasgow, but Robert's children were baptised Roman Catholic in Massachussetts. This represents a dramatic shift in faith. As Robert's wife, Florence King, was French Canadian, it's likely that she was Roman Catholic and Robert converted when they married.
