Notes - Alexander Stewart's identity is not confirmed, so he is designated with a question mark. He was the hereditary Forester of Glenfinglas and progenitor of 1-Line of the Stewarts in Ardcheanochdan.
According to Stewarts of the South, 1-Line of the Stewarts in Ardcheanochdan and Duart "were a long time foresters of Glenfinglas under [the] Glenbuckie family."
He is the most likely candidate to be the Alexander Stewart in Ardcheanochdan who married sometime after 1736 to Beatrix Stewart. This is likely their marriage in Callander:
"1742, Alexander STEWART and Bettrice STEWART both in this parish listed themselves to be proclaimed in order to marriage 4th Dec and being orderly proclaimed were married 14th said current."
Beatrix was the daughter of Alexander Stewart, tacksman of Bartavourich and formerly resident at Achalader, descended from the Stewarts of Ballachulish (Appin). She was previously married to John McLaren of Wester Invernenty, who was murdered in 1736 by Robin Og McGregor, son of the later Rob Roy McGregor.
Gordon MacGregor (author of the Red Book of Scotland) thinks she may have, after John’s murder, subsequently married an Alexander Stewart in Ardcheanacrochan in the early 1740s. His source is a sasine where she disposed of her rights to her late husband’s lands and is styled as John’s widow and Alexander’s wife.
