Notes - Donald Stewart has not been identified in public records. Stewarts of the South c. 1815 says that Donald resided at Summerline on the Flanders Moss. However, the 1814 Blair Drummond Moss Census shows no such person. Stewarts of the South is wrong in its description of Donald Stewart. Even if Stewarts of the South got his name wrong, there is no stray Stewart family on the Moss that could be him that hasn't been accounted for already in our database.
Stewarts of the South, c. 1815-1820, accounts for this family as follows:
Duncan Stewart, [a] late tacksman [at] Cuilanleogail [in] Callander parish [on the] Earl of Murray’s estate. [He] left three sons:
1. Duncan, a labourer to the Earl of Murray near Doune Lodge. [He has] four sons: One of them in the Earl’s service; the rest are minors
2. Donald, [at] Summerline Flanders Moss [in] Kincardine parish. [He has] four sons: two of them [are] soldiers who performed actions becoming the descendants of their progenitors; the other two [are] with their father –
3. John, [who is an] innkeeper [in] Doune. [He has] three sons [who are] minors.
The above Duncan (Sr) had a brother [who was] a baker in Dunfermline with a family.
