• Notes

  It appears that he worked for Hugh Gillespie at the Deanston Mill as he named one of his younger sons, Hugh, and his nephew, John Stewart, married a granddaughter of Hugh Gillespie. In 1851, Alexander's widow and children were residing in Deanston next door to Hugh Gillespie (b 1828) and Mary Stewart (dtr of James Stewart and Buchanan)
