Notes - Angus McDonald Stewart was a native of Deanston, Perthshire, Scotland. He was reared in that country, and in company with his elder brother, Dugald, came to America in 1869. He stopped at Chicago and worked at his trade, as a hatter, until 1871, when he joined his brother in this city in the grocery business. In 1886 he was married to Miss Lizzie Humes, a well known young lady of this city. By her he became the father of two sons who are by his death bereaved of a kind and indulgent father. We was a kind husband also, an active and successful business man, and an intelligent and progressive citizen in whom his fellow citizens placed confidence and reliance. He was serving his second successive term as councilman of the city at the time of his death and had served the city in that capacity at various times during the past. He was a good and true friend, and was always ready to help those whom he regarded as his friends. His brothers, Dugald and James, both respected and honored citizens of the city, and his sister, Kate, feel his death keenly.
The funeral services will occur at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, May 4, after which he will be laid to rest in the Neodesha Cemetery. (Obituary from FindAGrave, source not cited.)
---
FindAGrave shows his son incorrectly as Angus R Stewart Jr who moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and married Hazel Bayes, had a family there, worked as a hotel proprietor, and fell to his death from a fire escape. But that Angus Stewart was born in Michigan as the son of Alexander Stewart and Mary McNaughton. His correct son was Angus McDonald Stewart who moved to Salt Lake City and was a hotel proprietor and died in a car accident.
