• Notes

Robert Stewart is estimated to have been born about 1770 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland, although no record of his birth has been found. Robert Stewart married on 20 Dec 1793 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland to Mary Ferguson. They had four documented children. Robert Stewart has not been found in any census records and is presumed to have died before 1841. He cannot be the same person as his contemporary Robert Stewart in Buchany and Milton of Cambusburn who was born in 1776 and would be too young to be married in 1793 to Mary Ferguson. Also, both Roberts have same-named sons who grew to adulthood. Robert Stewart in Buchany has not been identified in Stewarts of the South. He may be descended from the Stewarts in Calliebohalzie, whose family is not listed in the Appendix of Stewarts of the South. He is a potential match to Robert Stewart in Deanston, except that Robert Stewart also has a son John Stewart in Deanston whose information conflicts with this family.
