- Janet Stewart was born in 1822 in Doune, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland, as a daughter of John Stewart and Christina Morrison, according to her death registration. However, it's likely that her death registration incorrectly records her mother's surname and that her mother may have been Christina McDonald.
In 1841, Janet Stewart's future husband, Daniel Leckie, was residing at Main Street, Doune, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland, in the home of Catharine Murray, 74, independant. Also residing with them was Peter Stewart, 50, Tea Merchant in Doune, son of John Stewart in Wester Torrie and Sara Ferguson, and Archibald Stewart, shoemaker, son of John Stewart, Spirit Merchant in Glasgow, and Christina McDonald.
