- Robert Stewart is believed to have been born about 1620 in Culgartmore, on the south shore of Loch Katrine in Aberfoyle parish, Perthshire, Scotland, as a son of Robert Stewart in Culgartmore and an unidentified mother.
Robert Stewart's identity is not confirmed. He is believed to be the Robert Stewart in Lurg named as a witness to the baptism of John Stewart, son of John Stewart in Arrochiebeg. John Stewart in Arrochiebeg is believed to be Robert's brother who later acquired Calziemore. 29/05/1653 "Jo’n Stewart in arrochenerg (Arrochiebeg?) And Jonet Mcfarland, son baptized called Jo’n. Witnesses Allex’r and Robert Stewarts in Lurgue." (Buchanan Parish Register) (Lurg is next to Callimore) The same marriage is also recorded in 1651 in Drymen parish only parts of which are legible. "Robert Stewart in Stussinmans? and Margaret McFarland ~~~~~ of late ~~B McFarland of F?~~~garmenty?... " (Drymen Parish Register)
In a disposition dated 14 May 1665 between Robert Stewart in Culgartmore (this Robert's father) and Sir Colin Campbell of Aberuchill, Robert is said to have had three lawful sons, the third of which was John Stewart, who received the lands of Calziemore (Callie Mor) on Loch Lommond. His elder two sons are not named, however, we would expect Robert's second or third son to be named Robert after his father.
Robert is believed, but not confirmed, to be the Robert Roy Stewart who resided in Stuckinrory (south of Inversnaid) and married on 13 May 1651 in Buchanan, Stirlingshire, Scotland, to Margaret McFarland and had a daughter Janet the following year. "Robert Stewart in Stuckinrory, Margaret McFarland ____ A B ___ consent of parents and family."
