- John Stewart is estimated to have been born abt 1785 in Buchlyvie, Kippen, Stirlingshire, Scotland, as a son of Charles Stewart and Janet McLaws, although no record of his birth has been found.
John Stewart is described in Stewarts of the South, c. 1815, as "John, who carries on the business with Mrs S[tewart], his mother, and keeps a public house."
John is believed to have not married nor had children.
In John's mother's Deed of Settlement, dated at Buchlyvie, 20 Nov 1829, Janet Mclaws or Stewart, Vintner in Buchlyvie, identifies her son, Charles Stewart, former currier in Buchlyvie, and now clerk in London, as her sole heir and beneficiary. Her son John Stewart is not listed and is presumed to have predeceased her prior to 1829.
