Notes - James? Stewart's name is not known for certain and is thus shown with a question mark. He is suspected, but not confirmed to be the brother of John Stewart, son of John Stewart, shoemaker in Thornhill, who died in 1761 and named his sister Katherine Stewart, wife of John Morrison, as his executor.
The testament cites members of the Stewarts of Lendrick as creditors, so he could belong to that family, however he does not match the description of any members of that family in Stewarts of the South, mind you he was dead 50 years before Stewarts of the South was written.
As the son of this "James?" Stewart was himself a shoemaker and tanner in Thornhill, as were several generations of his descendants, it seems more plausible that John Stewart of the 1761 testament is related to the descendants of this "James?" Stewart.
