  John's baptism was witnessed by John Forbes of Culloden, John Cuthbert of Castlehill (grandfather), John Baillie of Torbrake. John was a Lieutenant in his cousin's regiment, the 78th Regiment of Foot, "Fraser's Highlanders". He was killed at the landing at Louisburg, Nova Scotia, Canada on 8 JUN 1758 and was distinguished as a promising officer by General Wolf.
